Well, you are still young, American and thus idealistic - after you? experience real poverty I suspect your mind will be changed. None of the poor of this world want your sympathy/understanding...just your money or some traditional Western education, assuming there is something they can do with the edu, which in many places there is not. In some places you will be a kidnap target. Where will you get the money to travel, what is the source of that money? Travel by plane, ship? How are they made?
By: BrechPro. on 20 May 12, 20:23:29
The internet does connect us and allow that, but it doesn't provide an actual experienced? connection, it's not as real since it's just looking through a computer screen. Like I said I am going to enjoy my life and do what I want. That wasn't an argument, why do I have to be weak to what something simple. Did you ever think I actually hate money? It's destroyed our world, and people have developed so much greed fueled power because of it! Now the world is so imbalanced.
By: nthmost. on 20 May 12, 19:54:48
So in other? words, you believe that the only way to produce something of value in this world is to suppress creativity and kowtow to an authority all day? That's what "growing up" is? Really?
By: rh001YT. on 20 May 12, 19:34:34
You can actually see more of what's happening on earth via You? Tube than any amount of travel that one person can do. Not every job is "dog eat dog", come on, you know that. You can't help anyone till you've helped yourself. Charity requires money. A former banker founded Future Hope in Kolkata - he had some money & many friends with money. Don't be weak, nothing good comes from that.
By: rh001YT. on 20 May 12, 19:28:41
I want to encourage those who find this vid - it's skewed view of reality - hostile to prosperity & civility & just plain stupid - to please post your retorts, and vote up all posts you like. Hundreds or thousands of high-school age kids will be helped by your posts. Kids: very sorry to say, but you will have to grow up. Now who do you trust...me, or adults who tell you that you can stay a child forever? Ask yourself, why are child slaves harvesting cocoa for your chocolate? - they lack art?
By: rh001YT. on 20 May 12, 19:19:13
The individual is a modern phenmenon made possible? only by the industrial revolution & prodigious use of fossil fuels, which then makes it possible for one to have enough wealth to stand on one's own? and fend off the herd. I cite Animal Farm. Only a small percent of any population group can perform critical thinking most of which we see in sci-tech & math. It is the sci-tech & math types that create the possibility of individualism, with of course fossil fuels.

Nicely? put.
By: BrechPro. on 20 May 12, 18:39:03
Okay, I understand and get what your talking about. I'm not selfish and self-absorbed in this, I'm not some stupid hipster that jumped on the spiritual band wagon, actually know what I'm talking about. Yeah I know there's slums all over the world! Why do you think I said travel so i can see for myself what's happening on earth. You think getting a profitable job in some "dog eat dog" business is gonna help that. I never said? my life was only easy because of the universe, this isn't a religion.
By: universalsailor. on 20 May 12, 15:45:44
For every person who is prepared to do anything the hard way, there are a hundred who'd prefer to look for and believe in an easy way. But in education there is no easy way. Although there are plenty of Pied Pipers who? would lead your children onto the slag heaps of ignorance. So be warned: fingerpainting leads to flipping burgers ...
By: universalsailor. on 20 May 12, 15:40:09
Oh, that was the point, was? it? How about: "experiment on the poor." And without their consent or knowledge. Pay schools will continue to educate properly no matter what this left-wing idealist recommends. After all, we have an elite to maintain. So, no fingerpainting until you can do your sums and punctuate properly. And by the way, I'd lay a golden guinea to a bent farthing that Ken Robinson's education was closer to the one I propose than to the one he'd like to have your children enjoy.
By: laba1987. on 20 May 12, 14:49:38
this is? dead on right.
By: rh001YT. on 20 May 12, 08:22:08
The child that learns math and English ( or whatever is the national language)? can then learn everything else, without which they can learn little. Failing schools deserve defunding - the school building remains, the staff is changed, hopefully for the better. The "better" practices are those pre 1975. Only sci-tech combined with energy, usually fossile fuel, can produce prosperity & comfort. The arts rely on the excess of wealth created by the sci-tech types. Art will not fix Mali.
By: PeterG00000. on 20 May 12, 06:15:02
I was overly harsh on private schools, this is true. But NCLB has had a corrosive effect on everything outside of the purview of math and english (except PE) and may have doomed certain poor neighborhood schools to perpetual hardline reforms. I do like a standardized test, but it needs to test more than math and english and do so without the threats it has now to defund schools that try new things. One could say NCLB is good in that it removed bad practices, but it is not encouraging better ones?
By: rh001YT. on 20 May 12, 04:14:18
It is not difficult to discern that those so very flattered by Sir Ken are the scatter-brains. Someone once said that the less capable one is the more vain. So the vain are such suckers for flattery: "you are good, right and just, exactly as you are, no need to change, no need to even think about it...just demonize? those who will not flatter you." Kids, don't fall for this Sir Ken clown..learn everything you can and become good at something productive.
By: rh001YT. on 20 May 12, 04:10:06
Now, now, all private schools in USA must teach to the minimum DofE syllabus else they don't get permitted. Same system most nations of any note. NCLB is a reaction to try to fix the previous 30 years of failed experimental edu. The USA can't fill it's need? for sci-tech jobs due to experimental tutelage, so the H1B visas bring in smart, traditionally educated sci-tech types from all over the world. Global competiton now and you favor the system which has failed? Why?
By: rh001YT. on 20 May 12, 03:57:40
Hi! Well maybe you don't know that "slumdogs" means kids without homes/parents who rummage in the garbage for meals and collect recyclables to earn a few paisa.? New Age spiritualism is self-absortion and selfishness that, in the West displays ignorance of how & why the West is rather comfy, as if that "just happened" and no gratitude need be shown, nor effort made to pull one's own weight. Scientists, engineers, military/police/courts, not "the universe" makes your life easy as compared slumdogs

Charlotte Church sent? me here
By: BrechPro. on 19 May 12, 19:12:45
Understandable. I don't see how the last thing is spiritual. When I say spiritual, I'm talking about New Age. I believe that as long as I let the universe guide me? I'll survive. Oh and btw I'm not a rebel I just live the way I want to.
By: BigLaundry17. on 19 May 12, 16:29:08
shut? up
By: nicholasjames100. on 19 May 12, 12:13:06
fantastic!?
By: PeterG00000. on 19 May 12, 04:27:38
Seems like you might be missing the point of the speech, which is that all institutions (including private ones) tend to honor the wrong elements. Public institutions are not experimental because of how much they are controlled by standardized testing. "Experimental tutelage" is the key? to better ways of educating, and are somewhat more likely to occur in private institutions only because they have less restrictions, but this is offset by the lack of federal oversight to ensure facts are in use
By: universalsailor. on 19 May 12, 00:25:55
I wonder how good? you are at passing them ....
By: universalsailor. on 19 May 12, 00:23:48
Yes,? you have it precisely. I've been listening to this infuriating toxic leftist mumbo jumbo for decades now. It needs nailing for the buzzword-filled nonsense that it really is. The elite simply move their kids to pay schools that DO recognize the hard reaities, and the rest are left to rot under the experimenatl tutelage of these so-called educators.
By: MuonRay. on 18 May 12, 23:34:28
That's the best response to this video yet. Western society is so obsessed with the self-esteem movement that it does not even produce real work ready, or even college ready, people anymore. This guy has a degree in drama and for some reason that qualifies him to bastardise education in general. Thanks to so-called "innovation" clowns like him their has'nt been significant funding in education for practical engineering or science based work in Britain for? about 20 years.
